| In 1901 young Giuseppe Capurro persuades his father to make an investment: buy a small sweet shop located in the elegant street of via Corsica, in Genoa.
In 1918, once the Great War was over, Giuseppe Capurro did is first steps to improve his business, renovating the shop with a tea room often used to host parties and weddings.
During the Thirties, one of Genoa's most important industrial companies, "Ansaldo", was back to full power production, building ship after ship.
And it was for a launch of a ship that Capurro was hired to offer the on board catering for engineers, crew and workforce, while cruising around the Gulf of Genoa to test the engines.This was the first of many catering event Capurro Organized, to then further specialize in reception: launches, banquet, dinners and all kind of refreshments.
In 1937 Capurro opens the "Gran Caffè", planned by architect Daneri, in piazza De Ferrari downtown Genoa:

the shop was well appreciated by the public because of its pleasant image.
After about a year, the basement became s the home of "La Cambusa", soon to become the heart of Genoa's night life.
In 1945 Capurro starts his activity at the "Grattacielo": the restaurant is on the 31st floor of a skyscraper.
Because of its unique location and of the quality of the service offered, the restaurant soon becomes a destination for foreigners and tourists.
Meeting market demand for high-quality catering, in 1968 Capurro acquires Villa Spinola, an ancient noble residence from 17th century: its precious and enchanting landscape, together with Capurro's professionalism guaranteed success to the most popular events of the city.
Pippo Traverso e Paolo Capurro are still involved into the company management and ownership.
